Nursing Recognition

The Hospital of Central Connecticut recognizes and honors the accomplishments of our dedicated, compassionate, and talented nurses whose commitment to our patients creates a life-changing impact on individuals, families, and the hospital community at large.

Viola Larson Memorial Award

As The Hospital of Central Connecticut's highest Nursing honor, The Viola Larson Memorial Award acknowledges clinical expertise, leadership, professional development, compassion and respect for patients and co-workers. It is named for the former vice president of Nursing, the late Viola Larson.

Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing

The Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing program was originally developed by the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut to be a collaborative effort to celebrate outstanding nurses and elevate the nursing profession. The goals of the program are to encourage retention, inspire future nurses, focus public attention and recognize the breadth and scope of nursing practice at the local level. Hartford HealthCare is proud to have nurses at several of its hospital awarded with this honor on an annual basis.

Connecticut Nursing Research Alliance

Creating a local culture that encourages and supports the conduct of nurse-led studies and the application of evidence-based nursing practice is a strategic goal of The Connecticut Nursing Research Alliance. In support of this goal, the Alliance has established two awards to recognize excellence in the conduct of research and evidence-based practice.

Excellence in Nursing Research Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize nursing researchers for their contribution to the advancement of nursing science and professional practice through the conduct of research. The award is presented each Fall during the Annual Connecticut Nursing Research Alliance Conference to a deserving nurse whose completed research is considered exemplary and who serves as a role model for his/her nursing colleagues.

Excellence in Evidence-Based Practice Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual or group who has used research findings as a basis for practice innovation or has provided leadership for evidence-based practice changes in the clinical setting. The award is presented each Fall during the Annual Connecticut Nursing Research Alliance Conference.
