Conditions & Treatments

Birth is one of the most wondrous, complex moments of life, marked by eager anticipation and excitement, yet touched by concern and apprehension.

New mothers and their babies are very special people. That’s why we do everything we can to make you as comfortable as possible while you’re with us. It’s also why we try to provide you with all the important information you’ll need to get started on the right foot with your baby.

The Ferdinand Sauer, M.D. Family BirthPlace at The Hospital of Central Connecticut is named after the late Ferdinand Sauer, M.D., a brilliant, talented and devoted physician who served at the hospital for 25 years. Reflective of Dr. Sauer’s commitment to patient care, we provide a full range of care for our patients before, during and after pregnancy. The Family BirthPlace is staffed by board-certified obstetricians and specialists available 24 hours a day, in addition to on-site, board-certified anesthesiologists for pain control and perinatologists for high-risk pregnancies.

Among our distinctive features:

  • Experienced, compassionate physicians, nurses and other professionals.
  • Private birthing and post-partum rooms for your labor, delivery and recovery.
  • Personalized support and guidance related to labor, breastfeeding and home care.
  • Pediatric physician assistants who, in consultation with our pediatricians and neonatologists, are available to assist every newborn, 24 hours a day.
  • Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unity (NICU) offers advanced technology and treatments for babies born up to 3 months early or who require extra care
  • Maternal fetal medicine specialists for expectant mothers at high-risk for complications.
  • Partnership with the March of Dimes Healthy Babies are Worth the Wait® to ensure inductions and Caesarean sections are done at the right time and for the right reasons.
  • The Hospital of Central Connecticut is recognized as a Baby-Friendly Designated birth facility by Baby Friendly USA, Inc. This distinction acknowledges hospitals that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
